Want to know more about shooting in Armenia? See below for an introduction to Armenia locations, permits, when to shoot, costs, talent, crews, equipment, art department, studios, post facilities, visas and work permits, film friendly hotels, transport, communications and safety advice.

Film Locations. Armenia is a landlocked country in the Caucasus Mountains. It became the world’s first Christian country over 1,700 years ago and is now best known for its ancient Christian monasteries, churches and cathedrals, many of which sit in beautiful mountain settings such as Tatev Monastery and Khor Virap. Armenia is also known for its unique villages including the gingerbread houses of the mountain town of Dilijan. Other buildings of interest include the pagan temple of Garni, castle ruins and Yerevan’s National Art Gallery. Natural looks of interest include Armenia’s beautiful Caucasus Mountains, Lake Sevan, valleys, canyons, forests and rivers. Yerevan is the capital city and production service centre.

Armenia Film Location Permits. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach. Please contact us for location specific information.

When to shoot? Armenia has a continental climate. Winter (December to March) can be bitterly cold and snow-covered, especially at higher altitudes. Spring (April to May) is mild with wildflowers in full bloom. Summer (June to September) is hot, dry and sunny. Fall (October to November) brings colourful leaves. For monthly weather statistics please see here.

Public holidays may affect timing, availability and costs. See here for public holiday dates in Armenia.

Costs. Since little to no filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad which will add to the costs of a project. Local costs including locations, talent, supporting crew and equipment, are relatively inexpensive. Our Armenian fixer will negotiate local deals and provide the appropriate level of production support to match every budget.

Talent day rates and buyouts are negotiable. Armenia offers mainly Armenian looks with other ethnicities from the Caucasus and Slavic looks also available. All other talent need to be cast abroad.

Crews. Armenia has a small pool of locally based directors, directors of photography and stills photographers. Key crew are best brought in from abroad.

Contact us if you are looking for a director, DP, photographer, videographer (cameraman / camera operator), camera assistant (focus puller), sound operator, grip, gaffer, stylist, hair and makeup, PA / runner, production driver, or any other film crew for your shoot in Armenia.

Equipment. Armenia has some equipment available locally including RED DRAGON, ARRI ALEXA, and a range of other camera, grip and lighting equipment. Bringing in gear from abroad is an easy process.
