Want to know more about shooting in Liechtenstein? See below for an introduction to Liechtenstein locations, permits, when to shoot, costs, talent, crews, equipment, art department, studios, post facilities, visas and work permits, film friendly hotels, transport, communications and safety advice.

Liechtenstein Film Locations

Liechtenstein is a doubly landlocked country located entirely in the Alps. It is one of the smallest countries in the world so most locations can be reached within a short drive. Locations of interest to filmmakers and photographers include Alpine looks and ski resorts, Vaduz Castle, Gutenberg Castle, Schalun Castle, forests and rivers, vineyards, and modern architecture.

Liechtenstein Film Location Permits

Liechtenstein has a film friendly and streamlined permitting process. There are no extraordinary restrictions or rules. Please contact us for location specific information.

When To Shoot?

Liechtenstein has a continental Alpine climate. Despite its Alpine location, prevailing southerly winds make the climate of Liechtenstein comparatively mild. Winters (November to March) can experience heavy snowfalls. Spring (April to May) sees mountain wildflowers in full bloom. Summers (June to September) are mild and often cloudy. Fall (October to November) sees leaves changing colour. For monthly weather statistics please see here.

The Liechtenstein Operettas are a series of classical music events taking place from January through to March. The LGT Alpine Marathon in June takes place at an altitude of about 5900 feet.

Public holidays may affect timing, availability and costs. See here for public holiday dates in Liechtenstein.

Costs & Tax Incentives

Costs. Liechtenstein is a relatively expensive place to shoot. Liechtenstein trades in the Swiss Franc. Our Liechtenstein fixer / service producer will negotiate local deals and provide the appropriate level of production support to match every budget.

Tax Incentives. At present there are no tax incentives for foreign commercials or films shooting in Liechtenstein.

Film Crew & Talent

Crews. Liechtenstein has a very small pool of local directors, videographers and stills photographers. Key crew must be brought in from abroad. Local crews are non-union. Liechtenstein’s close proximity to major European film production centres allows easy access to those crews.

Contact us if you are looking for a director, DP, photographer, videographer (cameraman / camera operator), camera assistant (focus puller), sound operator, grip, gaffer, stylist, hair and makeup, PA / runner, production driver, or any other film crew for your shoot in Liechtenstein.

Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Liechtenstein has a very small population. Most citizens are of German descent and the official language is German. All other talent looks need to be brought in from abroad.

Liechtenstein Film Equipment

Limited camera, grip and lighting equipment available locally. Best to bring in from abroad. For productions looking to bring in film equipment Liechtenstein is an ATA carnet country.

Art Department, Studios, Backlots, & Post Production

Art department and set construction. Very little filming goes on in Liechtenstein. Best to bring in art department team from abroad. Set construction is very expensive.

Studios and backlots. None exist at present.

Post Production. Must post abroad.

Visas & Work Permits

Liechtenstein is a Schengen Area member state. Work permits are not required for filming in Liechtenstein. Visiting Western crews can enter Liechtenstein visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. Note, for crew who need visas, Liechtenstein does not issue its own visas. There are no border controls between Switzerland and Liechtenstein. As such, the same visa policies apply for Liechtenstein as they do for Switzerland.

Transport & Accommodation

Transportation Infrastructure. Roads are of a high standard. Liechtenstein has no airports due to the small size of the country. Zurich in Switzerland is the closest major airport a 115 km drive away.

Accommodation. Recommended film friendly hotels in Vaduz include:

Parkhotel Sonnenhof
Hotel Residence

Please contact us for corporate rates.

For longer stays we can also organize serviced apartments.

Final Notes

Safety. Liechtenstein is a very safe place for foreign productions to visit. See here for up to date travel advice.
