Film Locations. Vermont is perhaps best known for the spectacular blanket of colorful foliage that comes every fall. Other locations of interest to filmmakers and photographers include covered bridges (in Northfield Falls, you can get two bridges in the same shot), picturesque New England small towns, beautiful winding mountain roads, small ski resorts, pastoral scenes with roaming dairy cows and red-and-white painted farmhouses. Burlington, sitting by the beautiful Lake Champlain, is the largest city in Vermont. Stowe is a picturesque ski town.
Films partially shot in Vermont include Forrest Gump and The Cider House Rules.
Vermont Film Location Permits. Vermont does not require any general filming permits. Proof of insurance is required. Please contact us for location specific information.
When to shoot? Vermont has mild summers and cold, snowy winters. The fall colors Vermont is famous for are found in October / November.
Crew and Equipment. Vermont has a small pool of local crew as well as some standard grip, lighting and camera gear for hire. More specialized crew and gear can be brought in from the Boston and New York area, only a few hours drive away.
