Film Location: Reno, Nevada

Written on September 10, 2017

Reno

The city of Reno is located in northwestern Nevada, at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Reno is famous for the glittering neon signs of its hotels and casinos. Of note are Cal Neva, Circus Circus, Harrah’s, Silver Legacy, Atlantis, Eldorado, Grand Sierra, The Peppermill, Nugget, and The Sands. Other downtown film locations of interest include the Reno Arch, National Bowling Stadium, National Automobile Museum, and several old style motels. Reno is a city reminiscent of the old Las Vegas, with plenty of interesting characters with stories to tell.

Movies shot in Reno include Sister Act, Kingpin, Love Ranch, and Pink Cadillac.

Just outside of the city you can find several impressive ski resorts including Squaw Valley. Washoe Valley is home to Davis Creek and Bowers Mansion regional parks. Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake are picturesque locations. Virginia City is known for the V&T steam train. Carson City is also nearby. US Route 50 is nicknamed the Loneliest Highway.

Films shot just outside of Reno include Top Gun, Misery, The Bodyguard, and Clear and Present Danger.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport is well serviced by several US airlines. It is also the main access point by air to Burning Man.
