Film Location: Burney Falls, California

Written on October 19, 2017

Burney Falls

Burney Falls are located within McArthur–Burney Falls Memorial State Park, in northeastern California. Surrounded by forest, this spectacular film location features a 129 feet tall twin waterfall, moss and fern covered rock, and a clear blue pool below.

Crew parking is available at the campground, which is a short walk from the location.

For shoots requiring talent to enter the water, temperatures are very cold even in the summer. The waterfall surrounding see snowfall in the water but the falls themselves do not fully freeze.

The Pacific Crest Trail passes through the park.

The railroad bridge scene from the film Stand By Me was filmed just outside the park on a bridge owned by the McCloud River Railroad over Lake Britton.

Burney Falls are a 4.5hr drive from San Francisco, the closest major production centre where crew and equipment are based. Sacramento is a 3.5hr drive away. The closest airport is at Redding, a 1.5hr drive away.

The nearby town of Burney has several accommodation options.
