Fort Ord
Closed in 1994, Fort Ord is an abandoned U.S. Army post in Monterey Bay, California.
Ideal for film and photography projects seeking gritty urban looks, structures of interest include an abandoned drained indoor swimming pool and dilapidated warehouse space.
Although condemned and closed off to the public the city is open to giving permission for filming for the right projects.
Most of the fort’s land now makes up the Fort Ord National Monument, managed by the United States Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Conservation Lands, while a small portion remains an active military installation under Army control designated as the Ord Military Community.
Crews and equipment come from the Bay area. San Francisco is a 2 hour drive away.
The area is set to undergo renovations so best to film there before the location is gone.
