Luxembourg Film Locations
Luxembourg is a small, landlocked country located in western Europe between the nations of Belgium, France, and Germany. All locations can be reached within a 1 hour drive of each other. Luxembourg is known for its lush valleys, wooded hills, riverside hamlets, castles, museums, European Union locations, and WWII memorials.
Agricultural film locations include vineyards as well as fields of barley, oats, potatoes, wheat, and dairy cows. Factories produce steel products, machinery, and chemicals. Banking is the economic mainstay.
Luxembourg has hosted a variety of films including JCVD (2008), The Merchant of Venice (2004), Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003), and Shadow of the Vampire (2000).
Film locations can be dividing into the following cantons: Clervaux, Diekirch, Redange, Vianden, Wiltz, Echternach, Grevenmacher, Remich, Capellen, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, and Mersch.
Luxembourg City is the capital and largest city. Film locations of interest include the medieval Old Quarter, Grand Ducal Palace, Hall of the Chamber of Deputies, Place Guillaume II, Notre Dame Cathedral, Neumünster Abbey, Fort Thüngen, Monument of Remembrance, Adolphe Bridge, National Museum of History and Art, Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art designed by I. M. Pei, Philharmonic of Luxembourg, University of Luxembourg, and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Casemates du Bock is a vast complex of underground tunnels & galleries.
Larochette is a pretty market town which sits in a craggy valley that is encircled by picturesque woodlands.
Echternach has a beautiful town square and Benedictine abbey.
Vianden is a riverside town known for Vianden Castle.
Other castles of note include Bourscheid Castle, Beaufort Castle, Clervaux Castle, Walferdange Castle, Berg Castle, Bourglinster Castle, Useldange Castle, Hollenfels Castle, Meysembourg Castle, and Larochette Castle.
Clervaux Abbey is located in Clervaux.
The Ardennes region known for its wooded hills and lush valleys crosses into Luxembourg. Upper Sûre National Park is located in this area.
Schiessentümpel, located in Waldbillig, is a forest waterfall under a charming old bridge.
Fond-de-Gras has an old train station and steam train available for filming.
The city of Schengen is known for the European Museum.
National Museum of Military History is located in Diekirch.

When To Shoot?

Luxembourg is a Schengen Area member state. In fact, the Schengen Agreement has it’s name as it was signed in the Luxembourg village of Schengen.
