Filming in Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos Film Locations

Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands are located southeast of Miami and north of the island of Hispaniola. The country consists of 40 islands and cays, of which only 8 are inhabited.

The islands are known for paradise white sand beaches, turquoise seas, coral reefs, private resort islands, luxury villas, cruise ships, lighthouses, caves, picturesque golf courses, and British colonial architecture.

Tourism and offshore finance are the economic mainstays. Turks and Caicos is also known for its lobster and conch fishing.

Film locations can be divided into the following islands groups:

Turks Islands

The Turks Islands are a group of islands located in the east of the country.

Cockburn Town is the capital located on Grand Turk island. Other locations of note on Grand Turk include Governor’s Beach, Pillory Beach, and Grand Turk Lighthouse.

Salt Cay is another beautiful inhabited island in the Turks group of islands.

Caicos Islands

The Caicos islands, located in the west of the country, make up the majority of the islands.

Providenciales is the most populated island. Film locations of note include Grace Bay Beach, Leeward Beach, Taylor Bay Beach, Long Bay Beach, Malcolm Beach, Sapodilla Bay Beach, Chalk Sound, and Provo Golf Club.

Parrot Cay is a private island resort popular with the rich and famous.

Pine Cay and Dellis Cay are two other privately owned paradise islands.

Little Water Cay is known for its iguanas and Half Moon Bay.

North Caicos island is the most verdant of the islands. Film locations of note include Whitby Beaches, and Sandy Point Beach.

Middle Caicos island is known for Bambarra Beach, and the Conch Bar caves.

Just off the coast of Providenciales you can find La Famille Express Shipwreck, a rusting container ship marooned in a turquoise sea setting.

Turks and Caicos Film Location Permits

Permitting is a quick and easy process. Most locations are possible given time, money and the right approach. Please contact us for location specific information.

When To Shoot?

Turks and Caicos has a dry, tropical climate tempered by trade winds. The islands experience 350 days of sunshine every year, with little variation in temperatures. Turks and Caicos is generally warmer with less rain and humidity than its Caribbean neighbors. The driest period is from December to June. The wet season is from July to November, with little actual rainfall, but still the chance of a hurricane. For monthly weather statistics please see here.

Events of note include:

• Big South Regatta is held in May.
• Humpback whale migration from December to April.

Christianity is the largest religion, so those holidays are observed.

Public holidays may affect timing, availability and costs. See here for public holiday dates in Turks and Caicos.

Unique Local Stories

Brands are looking for local stories that match their brand narrative. Our local teams are a great lead for sourcing those unique stories and characters.

If you are looking for stories for your next shoot, send us your brief and we will pitch you ideas.

If you have a unique story you would like to pitch to a brand anywhere in the world, pitch us your idea. We have well-established processes to ensure that your ideas are properly seen and protected.

Costs & Tax Incentives

Costs. Turks and Caicos trades in the USD. Local costs are relatively expensive since most goods need to be imported. Since little to no filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad. Local transport is expensive. Accommodation particularly during the busy dry period can also be very expensive. Our Turks and Caicos Islander fixer will negotiate local deals and provide the appropriate level of production support to match every budget.

Tax Incentives. At present there are no tax incentives for foreign commercials or films shooting in Turks and Caicos.

Film Crew & Talent

Crews. Turks and Caicos has a very small pool of directors, videographers and stills photographers. Best to bring in key crew. Miami is the closest major production centre only a 1.5hr flight away should you need to look further.

Contact us if you are looking for a director, DP, photographer, videographer (cameraman / camera operator), camera assistant (focus puller), sound operator, grip, gaffer, stylist, hair and makeup, PA / runner, production driver, or any other film crew for your shoot in Turks and Caicos.

Talent day rates and buyouts are negotiable. There are no casting agencies. Street casting is required.

English is the official language.

Turks and Caicos has a small pool of talent looks consisting mainly of Afro-Caribbean and some Caucasian and Indian looks. All other talent needs to be brought in from abroad.

Turks and Caicos Film Equipment

Equipment. There are no camera, grip or lighting equipment houses in Turks and Caicos. Miami is the closest major production centre should you need to look further. Turks and Caicos is not an ATA carnet country but bringing in gear is quick and easy.

Communications. Communication is key. Our agility and global experience allows us to customise the right communications systems for every shoot.

Web posted casting, scouting, and videoconferencing.

For clients that are unable to attend set we offer a virtual video village solution. This dedicated and secure high-resolution video streaming platform allows clients from one or multiple timezones to view setups without compromise and to participate in real-time with the team on set. Separate systems can be set up for the discrete conversations that are required to make a job run right. Working remotely with our local teams reduces your content production costs, turnaround times, carbon footprint, and risks associated with unpredictable global events.

Art Department, Studios, Backlots, & Post Production

Art department and set construction is very basic.

Studios and backlots. None exist at present.

Post Production. Post abroad.

Visas & Work Permits

Crews travelling on western passports can enter Turks and Caicos visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. Work permits for film crews are not required.

Transport & Accommodation

Transportation Infrastructure. Main roads are up to international standards. Travel between islands is best done by boat. Several international airlines service flights to Turks and Caicos.

Accommodation. Recommended film friendly hotels in Turks and Caicos include:

The Tuscany
Meridian Club

Grace Bay Club

Parrot Cay
