Lake Atitlán
Lake Atitlán is renowned as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Aldous Huxley famously wrote “Lake Como, it seems to me, touches on the limit of permissibly picturesque, but Atitlán is Como with additional embellishments of several immense volcanoes. It really is too much of a good thing.”
Lake Atitlán is the deepest lake in Central America with a maximum depth of about 340 metres (1,120 ft). It is flanked by three towering volcanoes – Tolimán, San Pedro and Atitlán.
The lake is surrounded by many villages in which Maya culture is still prevalent and traditional dress is worn. Each village offers visitors a different atmosphere. The more popular lakeside villages include Panajachel, San Marcos La Laguna and San Pedro. Some villages can only be reached by boat. Lanchas, or small boats, provide transport from village to village around and across the lake. If need be, our local Guatemalan film fixer can arrange a private boat for the production.
Each of the towns and villages around the lake offer a wide range of accommodation options.
Guatemala City is where most local film / photography crew and equipment are based.
The main lakefront access point, Panajachel, is located a 3 hour drive from Guatemala City.
