Picturesque New England Fishing Village: Filming in Stonington, Maine

Written on October 10, 2012

Stonington

Stonington, Maine is one of New England’s last picturesque small fishing villages where lobstering remains the mainstay of the local economy and the pace of life is reminiscent of New England in the 1950’s. It is home to a working fleet of more than 300 lobster boats.

Dozens of inhabited and uninhabited islands are a short boat ride away.

Crockett Cove Woods Preserve is a nearby forest full of spruce and fir trees that makes for a moody location when the fog rolls in.

The town is located on the southern end of the island of Deer Isle. It is connected by bridge to the mainland. Bangor Airport is a 2 hour drive away or you can travel directly to Stonington Municipal Airport by charter plane.

Stonington has a four season climate with hot summers, an abundance of fall colours, snowy winters and colourful spring time.

For the film crew looking to over indulge, lobster sandwiches and whoppie pies are a must for lunch.
