When To Shoot?
Belarus has a temperate-continental climate with high humidity and rainfall throughout the year. Winter (December to March) is cold and snowy. Spring (April to May) is damp and rainy. Summer (June to September) is warm. This is the best time to film for weather. Fall (October to November) is damp and rainy. For monthly weather statistics please see here.
Kupala, a Slavic festival celebrating the summer solstice, is celebrated on July 6th and 7th.
Belarus is a predominately Christian country, so those holidays are observed.
Public holidays may affect timing, availability and costs. See here for public holiday dates in Belarus.
Unique Local Stories
Brands are looking for local stories that match their brand narrative. Our local teams are a great lead for sourcing those unique stories and characters.
If you are looking for stories for your next shoot, send us your brief and we will pitch you ideas.
If you have a unique story you would like to pitch to a brand anywhere in the world, pitch us your idea. We have well-established processes to ensure that your ideas are properly seen and protected.
Costs & Tax Incentives
Costs. Local Belarusian costs such as locations, talent, crew and equipment are relatively inexpensive. Imported goods and hotel accommodation can be expensive. Our Belarusian fixer / service producer will negotiate local deals and provide the appropriate level of production support to match every budget.
Tax Incentives. There are no tax incentives for foreign feature films or commercials in Belarus.
Film Crew & Talent
Crews. Belarus has a very small pool of local directors, directors of photography and stills photographers. Some English speaking key crew is available locally. More specialised crews should be brought in. Belarus’s close proximity to major European production centres allows easy access to those pools of creative and technical crew should you need to look further.
Contact us if you are looking for a director, DP, photographer, videographer (cameraman / camera operator), camera assistant (focus puller), sound operator, grip, gaffer, stylist, hair and makeup, PA / runner, production driver, or any other film crew for your shoot in Belarus.
Talent day rates and buyouts are reasonable and negotiated on a personal basis.
Belarusian and Russian are the official languages.
The majority of locals are ethnically Belarusian. There are also small minorities of Russian, Polish and Ukrainian people. All other looks are best cast abroad. See here for an example of local talent looks.
Belarus Film Equipment
Equipment. Belarus has some standard lighting, grip and camera equipment including cranes, Fisher dolly, Alexa and RED cameras. More specialized equipment is best brought in from abroad. For productions looking to bring in film equipment Belarus is an ATA carnet country.
Communications. Communication is key. Our agility and global experience allows us to customise the right communications systems for every shoot.
