Written on May 16, 2019

Shenzhen

Located just north of Hong Kong in Guangdong Province, China, Shenzhen is the manufacturing heart of the global tech industry. It is also quickly becoming the world’s leading centre for technology innovation and entrepreneurship. Often referred to as China’s Silicon Valley, Shenzhen is home to companies such as Huawei Technologies, Tencent, ZTE, and DJI. With a population of over 12 million people Shenzhen continues to be one of the fastest-growing megacities in the world.

Film Locations

Futian Central Business District is known for its gleaming towers, library, concert hall and youth palace. The Meridian View Centre offers sweeping city views. Window of the World is a collection of 130 world landmark replicas. OCT Loft Creative Culture Park is a trendy area. Huaqiangbei is China’s largest electronics market – it does not allow filming, so smaller crews typically film covertly.

Shenzhen’s size and diverse migrant worker population has created a vibrant and varied culinary scene, ranging from street food to high end dining.

The city regularly hosts an array of conferences, trade shows, summits, and other interesting events such as DJI’s RoboMaster, a robotics competition of engineering, strategy, and teamwork.
