Snow in August: Bariloche, Argentina

Written on August 20, 2012

Bariloche

Bariloche, Argentina is a lake side ski town situated in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.

Bariloche locations double for Alpine and Rocky Mountain looks including untouched ski runs, jagged mountain peaks, traditional German log cabins, old forests and picturesque lakes.

August is an ideal time to film winter looks with the snow season running from late June to early October. Mountain peaks are snow-capped year round.

Extensive ski resort infrastructure allows easy access to mountain peaks by chair lift and snow cats with helicopters also locally available.

Buenos Aires is the closest major production centre where key crew and equipment need to come from.  It’s a 2 hour flight or 18 hours by ground transport.

The area has played host to films such as On the Road and The Motorcycle Diaries.
