Columbus Lighthouse
Columbus Lighthouse or “Faro a Colon” is a monument and museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus. Located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the colossal cross-shaped structure is made of reinforced concrete. It is 680 feet (210 m) by 195 feet (59 m) in size. Columbus Lighthouse has 157 searchlight beams that when turned on project a gigantic cross into the sky. The light is so powerful it can be seen from neighboring Puerto Rico.
Film Permits
Columbus Lighthouse is available for filming both small footprint shoots such as b-roll and interviews for documentaries, right up to larger commercial shoots that require exclusive use of the space. Drone filming is permitted. Shoots that require drone footage or traffic control take about 7 to 10 working days to permit with relevant Santo Domingo authorities. Costs are negotiable depending on the specifics of the shoot. Lights can be controlled at extra cost. The location has previously featured in documentaries, but its use in a larger film or TV shoot would be a first.
