Liberdade, Sao Paulo
The neighbourhood of Liberdade in Sao Paulo, Brazil is home to the largest Japanese community outside of Japan.
The entrance to Liberdade is marked by a nine-meter high red torii (a Japanese arch that marks the entrance to Shinto temples). The neighbourhood is full of Japanese stores, restaurants, supermarkets, and signage.
Asian Talent
As well as its large Japanese community, significant populations of Chinese and Koreans also live in the district of Liberdade. Sao Paulo has a great pool of Asian talent ranging from extras through to lead roles.
When To Shoot?
May to August has the least amount of rainfall but the shortest daylight hours. The warmer months from September to April are wet with longer daylight hours. Average temperatures throughout the year are similar to those of Sydney and Los Angeles. August is typically the best month for hot and dry weather.
Liberdade hosts several street celebrations. Among the most popular are the Chinese New Year in February and Sendai Tanabata Matsuri in July.
