Film Location: Morelia, Mexico
Morelia is the capital of the central Mexican state of Michoacán. The colonial city center’s narrow streets are lined with well-preserved 17th and 18th century buildings built from the region’s characteristic pink stone. The city is famous for its many museums, universities, restaurants, chocolaterías, and sidewalk cafes.
Film locations of note include the baroque-style Unesco World Heritage Morelia Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, Palacio de Gobierno, Santuario de Guadalupe, Museo Casa Natal de Morelos, Casa de la Cultura, El Acueducto, Jardin de las Rosas, and Estadio Morelos. Palacio Clavijero is known for its inner courtyard and arches. Michoacan University of Saint Nicholas of Hidalgo is the oldest institution of higher education in the Americas.
It is also the closest major city to filming the Monarch butterflies.
The Morelia Film Festival takes place in October each year.
Mexico City is the closest film production centre where film and photography crew and equipment are based.
