Unusual Film Locations: Glass Dump, Mexico

Written on September 23, 2016

Unusual Film Locations

With filmmaking taking place more than ever all over the world they’re not making new locations fast enough to meet the demand for fresh, undiscovered places to shoot.

One little known place that has not yet had any productions visit can be found on the outskirts of the beautiful colonial town of San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato, Mexico. The local glass dump is located in a shanty town area about 20 mins drive from the centre of the city. Glass of thousands of different colours is disposed in large mounds. What the local artists do not buy for their creative works is recycled for profit by the locals who live off of the proceeds.

Mexico City is the main production centre in that part of the world where local crew and equipment would need to travel from. San Miguel de Allende is located about a 3.5 hour drive from Mexico City. San Miguel de Allende is a well serviced city with many high quality hotels and restaurants to choose from.
